Irish Saorsat TV service launches in Ka-band

RTÉNL, the network transmission arm of the Irish public broadcaster, has launched its planned free-to-air digital satellite service Saorsat.

The service is designed to provide digital television services to the 2% of households that will not be able to receive digital terrestrial television services after the analog switch off in October.
The service, which is available via Eutelsat’s Ka-Sat 9A satellite, will offer channels including RTÉ One, RTÉ Two HD, RTÉ News Now, RTÉjr, RTÉ One+1 and TG4 as well as digital radio services.

To receive Saorsat on satellite, viewers will need a satellite dish equipped with a Ka-band LNB and a DVB-S2 set top box.
