Moscow operator planning to invest heavily in FTTH

Sistema-owned Moscow network operator MGTS is planning to invest US$600 million (€450 million) this year in rolling out a GPON fibre-to-the-home network in the city, according to local reports.

The total cost of MGTS’s investment in the network is ultimately expected to total US$2 billion, according to the reports. Rival operators have chosen to roll out cheaper fibre-to-the-building infrastructure. MGTS currently serves about 500,000 broadband and 4.5 million telephony subscribers. The company expects to have about 100,000 homes on the GPON network by the end of this year.
