Swiss cable operator UPC Cablecom has acquired local operator Télémeyrin. The Liberty Global-backed operator now owns the whole of the company, which operates cable services in Meyrin, which is the fourth largest town in the canton of Geneva and has a population of 22,000.
UPC Cablecom acquired the stake in the company it did not own from the municipality of Meyrin and Geneva Cantonal Bank. ”The Télémeyrin takeover is another milestone in the company s efforts to extend its coverage area and strengthen its market position. upc cablecom is strongly represented in French-speaking Switzerland where it employs more than 140 people. French-speaking Switzerland is an attractive growth market for us. The Télémeyrin takeover strengthens our position in West Switzerland. In acquiring cable networks throughout Switzerland we aim to develop our business and offer our products to even more potential customers,” said Iván Nash Vila, senior vice-president and chief financial office, UPC Cablecom.
