French pay TV operator Canal Plus has ceased broadcasting its TPS Star service on all platforms except digital-terrestrial pay TV.
TPS Star is no longer available on cable, satellite and IPTV. However, Canal Plus has failed thus far to obtain permission from media regulator the CSA to withdraw the channel from DTT.
Canal Plus has maintained that the loss-making TPS Star is not economically viable. However, France’s competition authority last year cited Canal Plus’s failure to invest in TPS Star as one of the reasons for its decision to rescind its authorisation of the merger with TPS and impose new conditions on the group.
