Channel provider Scripps Networks Interactive is likely to look to further international acquisitions following its acquisition of the UK‘s Travel Channel in March.
Speaking to journalists at the MIP TV event in Cannes at the weekend, Scripps Networks Interactive general manager Bob Baskerville said that the company was “very serious about growing its international business”.
Baskerville said that the acquisition of the Travel Channel allowed Scripps to stake a claim to be the largest player in the travel TV business worldwide. “Travel Channel is the first step in our move to be a global business,” he said.
Scripps’ acquisition of Travel Channel owner TCI for US$65 million (€50 million) followed its purchase of Virgin Media’s 50% stake in UK thematic channel provider UKTV last year.
