EBU selects NovelSat for satellite modulation

The European Broadcasting Union has selected satellite technology company NovelSat’s NS3 satellite modulation technology to distribute news and sports content within its global network.

The EBU is using NovelSat’s NS3-powered NS1000 and NS2000 satellite modulators and demodulators. NovelSat said the deployment of its satellite modulation technology enables the EBU to reduce costs while increasing bandwidth availability and improving fade margins. The NovelSat equipment will be used in the transmission of live pictures of various sporting events this year, including broadcast feeds covering Formula 1, the London Olympics and the UEFA Euro 2012 football championship.

“One critical task in maintaining the EBU’s leading market position is the need to reduce the cost of services provided over the EBU network. Our users’ demand for higher bandwidth is always increasing and the NovelSat solution allows us to substantially increase our payload bandwidth without increasing our satellite resource costs,” said Graham Warren, EBU director of network.
