Disney strikes TVOD deal with Google UK

Hollywood studio Disney has struck transactional video-on-demand deals with online video services YouTube and Google Play in the UK.

The deals, the first signed by the company in the region, mean that customers can acquire or rent movies on their computers or smartphones. Movies available via the services include recent hits Real Steel and Fright Night and features Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Con Air.

“This launch will offer UK viewers further choice and flexibility in how they enjoy our must-see films at home or on the move – all in a hassle-free cloud system,” said Catherine Powell, senior vice president and general manager, media distribution, The Walt Disney Company, EMEA.
