Liberty Global-owned Dutch broadcaster Chellomedia saw considerable subscriber growth across its portfolio of sports and movie channels last year.
Premium channels Sport 1 and Film 1 increased subscribers by 7% during the course of 2011, ending December with a total of 490,000 subs.
Chellomedia said the rebranding of its Film 1 channels and the addition of a new channel helped to boost customers numbers. Use of the Film 1 On Demand service increased by an average of over 25% per subscriber compared to 2012. Film 1 recently added the Film 1 Series channel, which airs popular international series, to the package.
Sport 1 also benefitted from the launch of new channels, Chellomedia said. The broadcaster added a golf channel and tennis channel last year.
“Our results are built on our continued commitment to bring the best and distinctive programming to our viewers” said Jeroen Bergman, managing director of Chello Benelux. “With the recent launch of Film1 Series, the addition of Film1 Sundance Channel; and, with Sport1 increasingly offering a wider range of world-class sports events, we are confident that 2012 will be a good year.”
