TV manufacturers will need to focus their efforts on “a different kind of TV set” to reverse losses, according to Sony CEO Howard Stringer.
Stringer used a breakfast hosted by the Wall Street Journal to say that manufacturers could not continue to sell loss-making TV sets and acknowledged that he had no doubt that Apple was working on the development of a new kind of TV platform. He said that a great amount of R&D effort was now going into “a different kind of TV set”.
Sony last week warned that it could lose as much as US$1 billion this year.
