Virgin Media passes high-speed milestone

Virgin Media’s 100Mbps internet service is now available to over 20 million homes across the UK, following launches of the service in Harborne, Birmingham, Seven Kings in Greater London, Lincoln and Solihull.

Virgin Media said it was on track to complete the expansion of the 100Mbps service across its entire network by the middle of next year.

“Providing speeds of 100Mb to a third of the UK today, and to a further four million homes by the middle of next year, assures Virgin Media’s lead in the British broadband revolution,” said Jon James, Virgin Media’s executive director of broadband. “This is the sort of connectivity that can give families access to the best in digital entertainment and online services in an instant as well as provide the foundation for business growth and start-up Britain. We’ve successfully proven we can achieve speeds of 1.5Gb – some of the fastest broadband in the world – so we’re ready for when consumers want more in the future as we expect demand will continue to accelerate.”
