ESPN Goals app reaches one million downloads

Sports broadcaster ESPN’s Goals App has been downloaded one million times in the UK.

The free app, which shows all goals from English Premier League matches within a few minutes of the action taking place, reached the one million milestone despite launching only two months ago. Between August 8 and September 8, ESPN Goals was the most downloaded free sports app on iPhones in the UK and the second most downloaded free sports app on Android devices. Users registered more than 50 million page views in two months and logged more than 61.3 million minutes of time on the app.

ESPN has also announced the signing of new advertising agreements for the app with Electronic Arts, Continental Tyres and Mentholatum. Each will run short pre-roll ads around video clips in the app.

Tom Gleeson, vice-president, digital media, ESPN International, said: “ESPN Goals has established a popular brand and built a broad user base with fans by demonstrating its ability to connect fans with Premier League football on the move. The app reflects our approach to bring fans multi-screen access to football, which is something we will continue to enhance as our business grows in the UK.”
