Romanian cable operator RCS & RDS has laid claim to be the first service provider in the country to roll out IPv6 via its fibre network.
Subscribers to RCS & RDS’s fibre network can test the new protocol via their online accounts. The operator is testing IPv6 in the cities of Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Timisoara, Iasi, Sibiu, Craiova, Targu Mures, Galati, Bacau, Braila, Pitesti, Ramnicu-Valcea, Targu-Jiu, Cernavoda, Medgidia, Eforie Nord, Navodari and Murfatlar.
IPv6 is designed to expand the number of available IP addresses to enable a much wider array of devices to be connected to the internet.
