German cable operator Kabel Deutschland is adding eight high definition channels this year. The pay TV platform will add six channels – ProSieben HD, Sat.1 HD, kabel eins HD, sixx HD, Sport1 HD and Servus TV – on October 5.
It will then add two further channels in December. Following the launch of these channels KDG will increase the price of its basic digital access package to €18.90, up from €17.90. This will mean that by the end of the year, Kabel Deutschland will carry 26 high definition channels over its network, although this does not include the HD channels offered by RTL as negotiations for carriage of these channels has not been finalised.
