Intelsat renews deals in Russia and Romania

Satellite operator Intelsat has signed a multi-year, multi-transponder agreement with Russian DTH operator Orion Express.

Under the deal, Intelsat will move a Ku-band satellite to 85° East by the first quarter of 2012 to offer extended capacity to Orion for standard- and high-definition content. The satellite will ensures signal reception from Russia’s western borders to Siberia’s Irkutsk.

In eastern Europe, DigiTV, owned by Romanian operator RCS and RDS, has renewed its contract for capacity at Intelsat’s 1°West video neighbourhood. RCS serves more than two million subscribers across five countries.
