The latest figures released by Freesat show that 47% of its customers to date this year have switched from pay TV service provider BSkyB. Freesat claims to be the fastest growing platform in the UK, adding 88,000 homes in the second quarter, double Sky’s 40,000.
Freesat said that 82% of retail sales were for HD boxes or integrated TVs. The company said it would launch the next stage of its product and service development early next year.
“We launched three years ago and in that short time have quickly established ourselves as a real challenger and genuine alternative to pay TV. With five HD channels, access to the BBC and ITV Players, as well as Freesat Plus all available subscription-free, we’re giving customers a high quality service without a high price,” said Emma Scott, Freesat’s managing director.
