NDS launches multi-platform DRM

NDS has launched a new DRM system for multi-platform pay TV. VideoGuard Connect is designed to protect premium content on a variety of platforms and to be interoperable with existing broadcast systems.

It is designed to be tailored to the security capabilities of individual platforms and to secure the ingestion, delivery and consumption of premium content over managed and OTT networks. The system is being used to secure UK pay TV operator BSkyB’s recently launched Sky Go multi-screen service on Apple iOS devices.
According to NDS, the premise for VideoGuard Connect is to enable TV operators to capitalise on the opportunities presented by multi-platform pay TV, and to enable a much wider range of business models, such as download rentals, expanded subscription packages and content bundling.

NDS says that VideoGuard Connect also provides headend tools to support integrated management and workflow functions that are needed to provide full operator control over content distribution and consumption.
The DRM system is interoperable with the NDS Unified Headend and Service Delivery Platform.

“VideoGuard Connect allows TV operators to incorporate OTT into a more compelling and complete suite of TV services without compromising the security or reliability of the platform,” said Nigel Smith, vice-president and chief marketing officer, NDS. “Highly rated by an independent security audit and approved by all of the major US studios, VideoGuard Connect enables our customers to extend their businesses into the OTT space and onto multiple devices.”

NDS will be exhibiting at IBC on Stand 1.A71
