Zon revenues boosted by triple-play and VOD growth

Portuguese cable operator Zon Multimedia is still attracting new triple-play customers, and penetration has now reached almost 60%.

Despite slowing triple-play growth, the operator said less than 30% of new customers take a single service. It ended June with a total of 678,500 triple-play customers, up from 571,900 a year earlier.

During the second quarter, Zon added 2,300 cable customers giving it a total of 1,157,800 subs at the end of June. However, it lost 3,900 DTH subs leaving the total customer base relatively flat at 1,552,800.

Zon said its new NDS-supplied user interface, called Iris, was having a positive impact on VOD sales, with revenues up 100% year-on-year during the second quarter, with each customer spending an average of €4 per month. Total ARPU increased by 1.1% in the first half of the year to €35.8.

Zon reported second quarter operating revenue of €211.5 million, up 2.2% year-on-year. EBITDA was up 3% to €78.5 million.
