Elemental wins contracts for rugby coverage and home shopping

Multiscreen video technology specialist Elemental Technologies has been chosen by sports media provider Deltatre to deliver expanded coverage of the Rugby World Cup, which begins on September 9.

The deployment for Rugby World Cup Ltd customises video for IP-connected devices. Deltatre is using Elemental Server to provide near real-time turnaround of match highlights for the official event website and mobile applications. Adaptive bit-rate game clips will be delivered via the Akamai HD Network to Deltatre’s DIVA video player using Microsoft Smooth Streaming for Silverlight.

Elemental has integrated with the Akamai HD Network, which has served as the global platform for some of the leading live sporting events to date, providing high-quality viewing experiences across a myriad of connected and mobile devices.

This enables us to provide a superior service to our client as well as a top-quality experience for viewers.”

Separately, home shopping channel QVC UK has joined QVC Italy in using Elemental Live to deliver live TV broadcasts to online platforms.

Elemental Live allows QVC broadcast operators to create individual product clips from live broadcast for web delivery, extending the lifecycle of product promotions.

“QVC UK launched a new iPhone app early in 2011. Customer appetite for the app exceeded all expectations and the next phase of development will deliver live streaming to the app,” said Edward Hailstone of QVC UK. “Streaming technologies are constantly evolving and we wanted a flexible and extensible solution. Elemental Live was chosen as it will allow us to deliver multiple channels to multiple devices in a robust and cost-effective manner.”
