Irish commercial broadcaster TV3 is looking to launch three new channels on the country’s digital terrestrial television service.
The broadcaster hopes to launch TV3+1, high definition simulcast TV3HD and kids channel 3Kids, which will also include classic programming in the evenings. This comes after the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) published its report on expressions of interest for new channels. The BAI said: “[We] are satisfied to recommend that the TV3 proposals be considered by the minister for carriage on RTÉ DTT multiplexes.”
Separately, Irish language broadcaster TG4 has submitted a request to launch a youth skewing channel and a +1 station. The BAI has recommended that the minister for communications, energy and natural resources consider the inclusion of this channel “subject to a satisfactory outcome of a sectoral impact assessment and public value review.”
