IPTV boosts iPlayer requests

The BBC’s catch-up platform iPlayer received 30 million more requests for TV programmes last month compared with a year earlier.

The total number of TV requests in July reached 117 million, of which 93 million came from online sources and 24 million came from Virgin Media’s cable platform. Mobile devices, tablets and games consoles delivered more requests than in June, and IPTV requests specifically rose from 1.8 million in June to 3.2 million in July. The service launched on the BT Vision IPTV platform in June.

Top Gear, The Apprentice and Torchwood: Miracle Day were the most requested TV titles in July.
