Two thirds of 3DTV viewers watching at least one show a week

Two thirds of owners of 3D-capable TVs in the US and Europe are watching one 3D show at least once a week, and 41% claim to be watching 3D content at least once a day or several times a day, according to a report by Strategy Analytics.

According to Strategy Analytics, 3DTV owners typically own two pairs of 3D glasses, with only a minority of owners of such sets (13%) claiming not to own any glasses. However, the cost of glasses is seen as a barrier to some, with 53% of 3DTV viewers saying they would buy more 3D glasses for family and friends if prices were lower.

“3DTV is confounding the sceptics and gaining traction with early adopters,” said David Mercer, principal analyst and the report author. “A significant minority of 3DTV owners now watch some TV in 3D on a daily basis, and this should be seen as an encouraging sign for content producers and the television industry in general.”
