NMa to investigate KPN acquisition of CAIW

Dutch media regulator the Nederlandse Mededingingsautoriteit (NMa) has said that the planned acquisition of cable operator CAIW by telco KPN has the potential to reduce competition in the market and should be subject to further investigation.

Telecoms regulator OPTA has also concluded that the acquisition should be more closely investigated.
If the two companies submit a formal licence application, the NMa has 13 weeks to decide whether the merger should be allowed.

The NMa has said that the merger may restrict competition from third-party providers in areas where CAIW is active.
