Telenor Broadcast revenues up despite Canal Digital sub losses

Telenor lost subscribers across its pay TV platforms in the first quarter, but the telco’s Broadcast unit increased revenues during the period.

Telenor’s Canal Digital DTH platform lost 8,000 customers year-on-year, ending June with a subscriber base of 979,000. Its cable TV service lost 4,000 subscribers, ending June with 227,000 subscribers. However, revenue from Canal Digital DTH was up slightly, due to price increases, to NOK1.043 billion (€134 million) from NOK1.041 billion a year earlier.

Revenue from Telenor’s satellite business was down NOK32 million year-on-year to NOK243 million as higher revenues from the CEE region were more than offset by reduced revenues from the Nordic region.

Telenor Broadcast reported total revenues of NOK1.791 billion, up from NOK1.734. Second quarter EBITDA was NOK462 million, up from NOK462 million.
