ITV1 joins Freesat winners

ITV1, Al Jazeera English and CBBC were among the winners at last night’s Freesat awards, which celebrates the best in channels and services available on the subscription-free UK satellite TV service.

ITV1 won the Best Entertainment Channel of the Year award for “finding a new confidence and a new interesting voice with success through shows such as Downton Abbey and the X Factor”.  The News Channel of the Year award went to Al Jazeera English, with the judges praising the channel’s independence and impartiality. Other awards handed out last night include Best Themed Channel for Vintage TV and Best Children’s Channel for CBBC.
