Irdeto acquires BD Plus content security for Blu-ray

Content security specialist Irdeto has acquired Rovi’s BD Plus technology for Blu-ray. The product will be rolled into Irdeto’s ActiveCloak for Media product line-up.

According to Irdeto, the combination of BC Plus and ActiveCloak will give Hollywood studios a better way to protect high-value Blu-ray movie titles from digital piracy.

Security for Blu-ray content has been compromised by weaknesses in the Advanced Access Content System (AACS), which has suffered from a number of security breaches and hacks.

“For Irdeto the most important thing that it does is that it makes what we have been doing for the last few years a lot more visible to the market and to our customers,” said Said Rahmani Khezri, senior vice-president of corporate and business development at Irdeto. “We will be protecting in a more visible way the content of the studios.”
