Telenet to get 3G licence

Belgian cable operator Telenet has formally applied for the country’s fourth 3G licence.

The company has formed a consortium with Wallonia cable operator Tecteo, which operates under the VOO brand, called Telenet Tecteo Bidco, to bid for the licence. The Belgian Institute for Postal and Telecommunication Services opened the bid process on March 15 and it will also provide access to spectrum in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands. The consortium is the only bidder for the licence. “Today’s joint bid to acquire mobile spectrum shows Telenet’s commitment to invest in order to further improve the competiveness of the Belgian telecoms market and to deliver better quality at lower prices for consumers,” the operator said in a statement.
