Alcatel-Lucent teams up with thePlatform for multiscreen
Alcatel-Lucent has formed a strategic partnership with US-based online video technology specialist thePlatform to support the delivery of live TV and video-on-demand to multiple screens.
The partnership will combine Alcatel-Lucents Velocix CDN product with thePlatformÂs cloud-based mpx video management system. The pair will also deliver a suite of Multiscreen Clients  subscriber applicants that can support video playback on a PC, tablet or mobile device.
Alex Grass, vice-president of global operations at thePlatform, said there were three key elements to the deal: the strategic alliance lining up the resources of a global player with the online video expertise of thePlatform, the combination of the Velocix CDN infrastructure and AlcatelÂs IPTV expertise with thePlatformÂs technology, and the introduction of Multiscreen Clients.
Clayton Wagor, head of solutions and marketing, Americas, at Alcatel-Lucent, said that the partnership was designed to enable operators to reach as many devices as possible without having to make large upfront investments in their own infrastructure.Â
