Rostelecom chief named as new NTC chairman

Rostelecom president Alexander Provotorov has been named chairman of the board of National Telecommunications (NTC), succeeding Mikhail Lesin.

The appointment follows a deal in February whereby Rostelecom, Uralsvyazinform and North-West Telecom compelte the acquisition of a 71.8% stake in NTC for RUB28 billion (€680 million). In all, NTC’s new board includes seven Rostelecom representatives, as well as NTC director-general Sergei Kalugin, Svyazinvest deputy director-general Mikhail Leshchenko and representatives of other shareholders.

NTC provides cable TV and broadband access to 5.1 million subscribers in Moscow and the surrounding region, St Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirisk and Kurgan.
