ProSiebenSat.1 makes new games acquisitions

German media group ProSiebenSat.1 is acquiring free online games publisher burda:ic.

The games company, whose Alaplaya games platform is used by about seven million players. ProSiebenSat.1 is also acquiring a controlling interest in Berlin-based Covus Games, with operates the browsergames.de portal with 1.8 million visitors a month. The media group will take a 51% stake in Covus Games initially, acquiring the remainder of the company in 2013. Both companies will be held by ProSiebenSat.1 Digital.

Thomas Ebeling, the ProSiebenSat.1 Group CEO, said: “The online games sector is the fastest growing segment in the entertainment industry worldwide. Our aim is to become one of the top three providers in Europe, and these acquisitions take us one significant step closer to achieving it.”
