Roma Khanna to run TV at MGM

MGM has tapped Roma Khanna to run its TV and digital division. Khanna was running international networks at NBC, but exited following the takeover of the studio by Comcast.

As president of MGM’s Television Group and Digital, Khanna will oversee all television sales, production, acquisitions, licensing, content creation and digital initiatives for MGM worldwide. She will also oversee all existing franchises and partnerships and guide the creation of new content based on the MGM library.

Khanna will report directly to Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, the co-chairmen and CEOs of MGM since it emerged from bankruptcy late last year.

In Roma we have found an executive that we know will be able to fully realize the vision we have for our television and digital business, Barber and Birnbaum said in a joint statement. We look forward to Roma developing a robust slate of new television and digital content for markets all around the world.

I am thrilled to be working with Gary and Roger and the MGM team, said Roma Khanna. MGM has a long history of creating and distributing world-class content and I am very excited to have the opportunity to help grow the global business across both digital and traditional platforms. Her departure as president of Universal Networks International and Digital Initiatives was made public in March as the new management team of Jeff Shell and Kevin Maclellan was announced. Prior to NBCU, Khanna was at Canadian broadcaster Chum.
