SelecTV awarded French DTT frequency for VOD

French media regulator the CSA has chosen TV Numeric-backed SelecTV to operate a video-on-demand service on the country’s digital-terrestrial platform.

SelecTV will offer a subscription VOD offer on the platform, including one 3D film each month. As well as popular series and kids shows, the platform will offer 320 recent films each year, released four months after being shown in cinemas.

The CSA launched a call for candidates to provide VOD services over the air on a DTT frequency set aside for the purpose last November. SelecTV has beaten off competition from Canal Plus, which had proposed to offer either CanalPlay or Canal Plus On Demand on the platform, as well as smaller rivals including Vaziva Conseil, Evazion TV and TV77. The award of the frequency follows a trial of the technology, which sees VOD downloads delivered over the air, early last year.
