S4C expected to appoint former CEO as chairman

Welsh-language broadcaster S4C is expected to appoint Huw Jones its chairman after he got backing from UK politicians.

Jones was chief executive of the broadcaster between 1994 and 2005 and was vetted by a parliamentary committee this week. It duly approved him for the role. This follows the UK government selecting Jones as its preferred candidate for the role.

S4C is facing changes to the way it is funded. It currently receives an annual government grant, but public broadcaster the BBC has agreed to fund the channel from licence fee revenues from 2013.
