Wananchi Group secures investors for African pay TV plan
Kenya-based Wananchi Group has secured US$57.8 million (40.8 million) from international investors to further its plan to launch satellite pay TV services in East Africa.
Liberty Global, Oppenheimer Funds and Sarona Asset Management took have invested in Wananchi, which is already active in delivering triple-play services in Kenya, including cable TV, but which plans to roll out satellite-based services under the Zuku brand in Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan and Uganda.Â
