German competition office wants to probe Liberty’s German cable deal

German antitrust authorities have asked for permission to scrutinize Liberty Global’s proposed takeover of German MSO Kabel BW.

The Bundeskartellamt has asked European Union authorities for jurisdiction and wants to investigate the deal at a local, rather than EU level.
Liberty is seeking to buy Kabel BW for US$4.5 billion (€3.2 billion). The decision whether to allow the German competition authority to look at the deal now rests with EU regulators.
