Film Europe Channel launched in Cannes

Czech-based Film Europe has launched a new international movie channel of the same name to coincide with the Cannes Film Festival.

The channel will air a range of European films in their original language with subtitles, initially in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and later in other European countries. The channel will initially air in SD from the autumn with HD and 3D to follow.

CEO Ivan Hronec, launching the venture in the Buñuel Auditorium at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, said the goal of the channel was to provide a platform for European culture and identity, and to support commercially viable films that did not rely on state support.
