South African pay TV operator MultiChoice is to increase its broadcast capacity over sub-Saharan Africa thanks to a new agreement with Spanish telco Telefónica.
MultiChoice already uses TelefónicaÂs infrastructure to provide coverage across Africa, but the new 15-year agreement will provide the pay TV operator with additional capacity to launch HD services. Telefónica uplinks MultiChoiceÂs services from its Guadalajara facility to the Eutelsat W7 satellite. Telefónica has set aside space to expand MultiChoiceÂs operations at the centre and has installed a new 13-meter uplink antenna.
