Deutsche Telekom increases TV subs despite falling revenues

Deutsche Telekom’s pay TV platforms continued to grow across Europe during the first three months of 2011.

In Germany, the telco’s Entertain IPTV service ended March with a total of 1,257,000 subs, compared with 896,000 a year earlier. Increased revenue from TV services helped to offset overall revenue from the telco’s German Consumer division, which was down 3.6% to €3.1 billion during the first quarter.

In Hungary, Magyar Telekom passed 750,000 IPTV and DTH subs during March, resulting in a 13.5% increase in revenues from TV services.

Deutsche Telekom’s Croatian business T-Hrvatski Telekom increased its IPTV base to 317,000 from 257,000 a year earlier, adding nearly 20,000 subs in the three months ending March 31.

Despite adding TV subs and increasing revenues from TV services across its markets, Deutsche Telekom’s first quarter revenues were down 8% year-on-year at €14.5 billion, with profit down 19% to €1.6 billion.
