Ziggo to replace 400,000 modems with DOCSIS 3.0 devices

Dutch cable operator Ziggo plans to replace 400,000 modems with DOCSIS 3.0 modem-routers.

Ziggo will replace existing DOCSIS 2.0 modems with Cisco Ubee devices that can handle broadband speeds of up to 480Mbps. The unit has two Ethernet ports, connections for two telephone lines and customers can choose to use WiFi in the 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz band.

The new devices are being installed to ensure that households are prepared for higher bandwidth services and wireless home networking, Ziggo said. The replacement will commence next month and will be completed by September.
