Voddler on-demand platform launches in Spain

Online VOD service Voddler is to launch in Spain, its first market outside Scandinavia.

The Spanish service will mirror the one currently available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. The platform, which offers movies and TV series from Hollywood and Europe, will start a “pre-launch phase” in Spain today and the first invites to early testers will be sent out in the coming weeks. Voddler said it would use feedback from initial users to improve the localized service ahead of a full launch later this year.

“Voddler is now firmly established as Scandinavia’s leading video-on-demand service, and it was time for us to start looking at new markets. Spain was a natural choice, given its film loving population, high broadband penetration, high usage of social media, and a gaping lack of legal film services,” said Marcus Bäcklund, Voddler’s CEO.

Last year marked Voddler’s first full year of operation, during which time it showed five million movies from a growing catalogue of 3,500 titles to over 850,000 Scandinavian customers. The service is available on computers, smartphones and will soon launch on internet-connected TVs.

In February, Voddler announced that it had received an investment of US$8 million (€5.8 million) from Nokia Growth Partners.
