UK festivals on Sky 3D this summer

BSkyB will broadcast two UK festivals in 3D this summer. The pay TV operator will air live footage from the Isle of Wight and Bestival festivals on its Sky 3D channel.

The Isle of Wight festival takes place on June 10 – 12 and will feature performances from Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters and Pulp. Coverage of the festival will be shown on the new Sky 3D channel and culture channel Sky Arts across the weekend. The channels will simulcast live for two hours a day throughout the weekend.

John Cassy, channel director of Sky Arts and Sky 3D said: “The Isle of Wight festival attracts some of the biggest names in music and this year’s line-up is no exception. Broadcasting live and in 3D for the first time is an amazing opportunity to bring viewers closer than ever to the real festival experience.”

Bestival’s line-up includes The Cure, Primal Scream and DJ Shadow. The festival, which also takes place on the Isle of Wight, opens on September 8 and closes on September 11. Organiser Rob da Bank said: “It’s amazing to be part of the world’s first 3D TV festival extravaganza on Sky. Bestival in 3D will be a mind-blowing explosion of colour and multi-dimensional music and mayhem.”

Sky Arts will also broadcast exclusive coverage of a further 10 UK festivals, including Download, Hard Rock Calling, Latitude, Lovebox, High Voltage, Cambridge Folk Festival, Camp Bestival, Sonisphere, Cropredy and Rewind.
