Sky Deutschland to offer HD + this summer

Sky Deutschland will incorporate the HD + service into its platform this summer, adding eight new HD channels in the process.

HD + is satellite operator SES Astra’s commercial HD platform for the German market that broadcasts channels RTL HD, Vox HD, RTL 2 HD, Sat 1 HD, Pro Sieben HD, Kabel Eins HD, Sport 1 HD and Sixx HD. These channels will be available to Sky’s HD customers free of charge for the first 12 months. From then on customers will be charged €50 to receive the channels.

Dr Holger Enßlin, chief officer legal, regulatory and distribution at Sky Deutschland said: “With over one million customers already able to access the fantastic experience of Sky HD, Sky customers’ excitement for brilliant HDTV image quality is huge. The HD+ agreement allows us to further expand the HD offering for our satellite customers and provides easy access to HD+ with some of the best free TV channels. With this, we present a new dimension of HD entertainment on Sky HD receivers. This underlines once more our goal to offer the best services for our customers – as well as our HD market leadership.”
The agreement will take the total number of HD channels available on Sky’s platform to 25.
