Intelsat announces new European deals

Satellite operator Intelsat has announced a raft of new deals for European customers.

Viacom’s MTV Networks has signed a multi-year deal with the operator for capacity at the orbital position of 1° West. The deal also includes terrestrial connectivity via the IntelsatONE network and uplink service via Intelsat’s teleport at Fuchsstadt, Germany. MTV Networks will use the managed services to consolidate channel programming into one platform over central and eastern Europe.

Intelsat has also announced that Eastern Space Systems Romania recently signed two new multi-year contracts for capacity at 1° West that will enable video distribution to cable headends and DTH platforms in Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Hungary, Macedonia and other central and eastern European countries.

Meanwhile, Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales (TSA), the broadcast arm of Spanish telco Telefonica, has signed an agreement for capacity on the Intelsat 905 satellite (IS-905), located at 335.5° East. IS-905 transmits various Spanish-language programming from to thousands of cable headends throughout Europe. Under the terms of the deal, broadcaster Chello Multicanal will use the IS-905 capacity to distribute the Hollywood, Odisea, Cocina, Decasa, Historia, Bio and Sol Musica channels.
