Motorola Mobility launches SocialTV companion service

Motorola Mobility has launched a new social TV service targeting operators that are launching multiscreen services.

The SocialTV companion service enables viewers watching video on their primary TV screen to share comments and interact in real time with friends and family via social networks on tablets and mobile devices. They will also be able to access content, applications or merchandise related to the programme they are watching.

The SocialTV companion service forms part of Motorola Mobility’s Medios multiscreen video services management portfolio. “Consumers are increasingly using companion devices to augment their entertainment experience,” said John Burke, senior vice-president and general manager, converged experiences, Motorola Mobility. “Our SocialTV companion service is leveraging the convergence of companion devices, community and entertainment to create a more enjoyable and personalized experience for the consumer, while giving the service provider for the ability to monetize that experience.”
