3D in almost 30% of homes by 2015

Penetration of 3D TVs will increase to 29% of homes in the US and 28% in Europe by 2015, according to new research.

PriceWaterhouseCoopers says that the main pay TV platform in most countries will soon have one or two 3D channels and one vide-on-demand platform.


3D content will be limited to live events including premium sport and concerts, the consultancy added. The adoption of 3D by other categories is likely to remain limited, PWC said, contradicting the message from channel operators such as BSkyB in the UK and 3Net in the US who have said that factual one-offs and series and scripted programming are already being transmitted, or will be soon.
