Multichoice launches third HD sports channel

South African broadcaster Multichoice has reorganised its sports offering following the launch of a third high-definition channel on its DStv pay TV platform.

SuperSport HD3 will join the two existing SuperSport HD channels. SuperSport HD1 will now focus on local and international rugby, PSL football, Uefa Champions League, tennis majors, European Tour, US PGA golf, F1 and MotoGP. SuperSport HD2, which currently shows the English Premier League, will, from April 8, broadcast selected cricket, Bundesliga soccer, PSL soccer, Europa League soccer, tennis majors, Champions League soccer, F1 and MotoGP. The new SuperSport HD3 channel will take over the role of broadcasting 24-hour coverage of the English Premier League.

Multichoice said a limited amount of sports programming, particularly legacy matches, would be in standard definition because of their historical nature.

The M-Net HD channel will be used to broadcast sport in high definition when the SuperSport HD channels cannot accommodate additional sport, including on Saturdays between 14:00-19:00.
