Telefónica sees pay TV growth in Spain, decline in Czech Republic

Telefónica España had 773,000 pay TV customers at the end of September, up 18.2% year-on-year. Net additions for the year to date numbered 70,000, up 68.7% on the same period in 2009, while the number of Dúo and Trío dual and triple-play customers accounted for 90% of the company’s retail broadband base. Retail fixed broadband customers in Spain rose 4.6% year-on-year to about 5.7 million.

In the Czech Republic, however, Telefónica O2 saw a decline in pay TV subscribers of 3.8% year-on-year to 131,000.

Elsewhere, Telefónica Latin America’s pay TV base grew by 3.6% to 1.7 million.

Telefónica’s consolidated revenue for the first nine months of the year was €44.3 billion, up 6%. Operating income before depreciation and amortisation was €20.4 billion, up 22.5%.
