Richard Halton, the CEO of BBC-led connected TV project YouView, has used a presentation at the Westminster Media Forum in London to express a commitment to supporting the content industry in the UK.
Halton said he was keen to share information with content providers about the development of the service. He also said that most viewing would likely remain linear for some time to come, and that it would be a long time before YouView rivalled Freeview, the free-to-air digital-terrestrial service it is designed to complement, in terms of the number of hours users spent viewing it. He said he did not believe that web TV would displace linear TV, but that connected TV would complement it.
