Irish public broadcaster RTÉ has appointed Noel Curran its new director-general. He replaces Cathal Goan, who announced his departure in July after a seven-year stint as DG.
Curran has worked in various roles at the Irish broadcaster as a journalist, producer and manager. He then left RTÉ in 2010 to work as a consultant. He will take up his new role in February 2011.
RTÉ chairperson Tom Savage said: “Noel has the editorial acumen, the cultural assurance, and the business flair to lead RTÉ into a new era of public service. In these especially challenging times, I am very pleased to announce his appointment and I wish Noel well as director-general.”
