UK broadcaster Channel 4 and video-on-demand provider FilmFlex have launched an online VOD service.
Channel 4 operates the Film4 digital channel and the VOD service will be branded Film4oD. It will offer movies on-demand for between £0.50 (0.58) and £3.99 and allow consumers to stream titles from a home computer. FilmFlex is a joint venture between Hollywood studios Sony and Disney.
The service will make about 500 films available at launch, and will reflect the tone and content of the Film4 channel. The service will only be available online initially, but Channel 4 may look to expand it to other platforms once it has a better understanding of the level of demand for the service.
