Middle Eastern media group Rotana is launching an entertainment channel in Egypt as it looks to expand its presence in the country.
Prince Alwaleed bin Talal’s company, which is also backed by News Corp, is launching staRotana in January to complement its existing channels including Rotana Cinema. The channel will air a mix of talk shows, drama series and local versions of international formats including Star Academy.
“Egypt is one of the most important markets for us and we are adding this staRotana, expanding its offering in Egypt in order to be stronger in the country, which is growing year by  year,” said Nezar Nagro, president of Rotana Media Services, the company’s sales arm.
